January 17, 2pm - Reawakening Our Earliest Sacred Stories
Soul Centered Shoppe and Event Center, Ojai, CA

Most of us have come to realize patriarchy - rule by a male-dominated society revering solely a male God - is not working for Mother Earth or most of the people on the planet. Despite the ubiquitous signs, symbols, and artifacts the Great She has been swept beneath the rug, Her worship dismissed, Her stories distorted, leaving Goddess either forgotten, demonized or spousified. How do we counter beliefs that there is no option but the authoritarian father? How does society go about making a course correction? How do ideas that permeate every level of society from womb to tomb, boardroom to bedroom, voting booth to the workplace shift into a more fair, equal, and just world of partnership, sharing, caring and peace? How might the world look had humankind’s earliest sacred stories not been tossed into the trash heap of history? If we can remember, if we can vision it, if we can restore ancient truths, if we can dare to demand a new normal and find our sacred roar, then we can manifest it. So let’s get busy!

Mesopotamian High Priestess Enheduana: First Female & Non-anonymous Writer/Poet with Foremost Authority on Enheduana, Michelle Hart

The first named author of world literature was a Mesopotamian High Priestess. Yes! A real, flesh and blood woman who lived from 2300-2225 BC. Enheduana was revered as the most important religious figure of her day. We have both visual and textual archeological evidence of her life. Through her powerful hymns to Inanna, the goddess of Love and War, she changed the course of history and was remembered for centuries after her death. Her writing is so intricate, scholars call her the "Shakespeare of Sumerian literature." Her hymns function as multi-layered incantations, interweaving political, personal, ritual, theological, historical and legal dimensions.

Michelle Hart is one of a handful of experts on the Mesopotamian, Princess, Priestess and Poetesse, Enheduana who is the first non-anonymous author of all literature. She has created the only website solely devoted to researching Enheduana as well as the only documentary about En-hedu-Ana, easily accessible on Youtube. Michelle was a guest lecturer at UCLA for the women's studies department from 2006-11. She combines her 20+ years in the film industry with her ongoing study of Enheduana’s innovative writing strategies to assist priestess-preneurs and coaches spread their empowering images and voices of the Feminine using video so that they can uplift the planet while reaching more clients. Cost: Free - Donations greatly appreciated
Presented by Karen Tate and Venice Library. 501. S. Venice Blvd., Venice, CA 90291.

Transgender Spirituality: The Redemption of Maligned Wisdom.
Guest speaker: Gillian Cameron
In ancient cultures, including Native American, Pacific Island, Greco-Roman and Hindu, trans people were seen as magical beings holding a special and unique essence of the Divine, a gift to humanity of a certain quality of spirituality. In the patriarchal societies that followed, right up until today in modern culture, trans people were and are maligned, marginalized, ridiculed, ostracized, tortured and even murdered. But things are changing … trans people are now becoming more and more accepted. What is the ancient wisdom we can learn from trans people … and can it be restored for humanity in modern times to benefit all? Our guest speaker, Gillian Cameron, will share a personal perspective born of real life experiences, artistic sensibilities and historical study.
